If I did not reload and my goal was to deer hunt in uncle bucks pastures… I’d choose the 450 bushmaster…. It really boils down to the end goal… the two cartridges were Designed with very different uses in mind. it offers better ballistics mostly due to the lighter bullets used and the fact that most rifles chamber’d for it have a longer barrel with hunting in mind and a twist rate more favorable to the lighter 45 cal bullet Selection, the lighter bullets are harder to load subsonic and maintain reliability in an AR platform, it can be done however efficient powder burn is hard to maintain and things get dirty quickly….Commercial Ammo however is more readily available….ĭue to certain state laws it might be a better choice for you. The 450 Bushmaster is a better hunting round for 200-300 yards.
It was designed with a shorter barrel, faster twist and heavy projectile in mind. It’s an awesome brush buster, it is light and handy. and with suppressed subs… it’s a pleasure to shoot.

With full house loads, within 100-200 yards it’s a nightmare for any 4 legged critter in North America. I had every intention of a suppressor friendly SBR and got my form one approved before I ever purchased the parts from tromix. Hunting with it my state is also completely legal…I chose it over the 450 bushmaster because of bullet selection and the ability to shoot the heavy’s, Therefore I can suppress it and reliably cycle a gas system while still maintaining quite a bit of energy… 500-600 grains moving at 1050-1060 FPS is still packing quite a bit of Punch. 458 Socom… I reload everything anyway, so Ammo isn’t a concern for me.
